My Husband and I built our forever home with Stortz Custom Homes in 2018. This was my first time building and my husband’s second time. I wasn’t sure what to expect when it came to taking on this huge project in our lives and we definitely wanted to make sure that we chose the right builder for us. If you know anyone who has built before, there are always stories to tell. We heard a lot of horror stories from friends and coworkers in regards to their builders and their experiences. We were definitely skeptical, to say the least when we shopped around. We asked a lot of questions and received a lot of pointers. But in the end, the decision of who to partner up with for our family’s big project was ours. Our perfect builder would keep us involved 100% of the time. They would allow us to do some of the personal things we wanted to do within our home during the process with consideration to schedules. They would listen to concerns or questions we had and would make sure we completely understood the answers. They would keep in contact with us every day. Would thoroughly discuss changes that would come up during the build and make certain we understood the implication of that change on both a time line and a financial aspect. Our perfect builder would understand “custom” and knew that we weren’t looking for a cookie cutter type of home. They would assist us with the millions of decisions that needed to be made and kept us grounded when it came to costs. They would be skilled in all that they do and extremely knowledgeable in the home building process. Would recognize mistakes (because they happen no matter who you build with) but jump all over it to make it right. Stortz Custom Homes was every one of those things that we were looking for. Building my dream home has been one of my goals for many years and as I get closer to retirement I decided it was time to start fulfilling that dream. I wanted to share with you that I felt that my contractor Dave Spooner and the professional nature of the contractors was exceptional. Dave never made me feel pressured and when needed, explained each series of the project. He especially encouraged me in ways to help keep my finished home free of dust from the project. The contractors on this job were clearly experienced and politely professional. They were not subcontracted out being strangers to each other. They were all versed in their trade – not seasonal help(which is a big deal!) None were a subcontract of a sub contract,which allows the contractors to make as much money off the owners and untrained staff as possible always producing less than grade A product and then to disappear into the wind when you try to contact them or say I would need to call some guy I never met.. sorry that’s a big soap box for me; I hate that!
